In the steps below, we’ll show you how to create a mini spa retreat right in the master bath of your home. There’s no need to pack a bag or travel anywhere because these tips will help you destress in your own personal oasis. 

BAMBOO, WOOD, AND WHITE TOWELS

Nothing says spa retreat quite like fluffy, oversized white towels and wood or bamboo accents. Buy a few of these towels especially for this purpose and keep them stocked away from the rest of the family. When the spa day arrives, place the towels on a wooden stool within reach of the bathtub. For an even more spa-like feel, place a heated water bottle between the folds so the towels are nice and warm against your skin. Replace your regular bathmat with a bamboo version so as not to have to step on a soggy rug. 

SPA-INSPIRED SCENTS

The spa experience involves more than just your skin. It’s a complete mind and body experience with scent at its core. Consider placing scented candles or an essential oil diffuser in the room to delight your sense of smell. Also, flowers or aromatic plants are a great touch. Lemon verbena, eucalyptus, chocolate mint, cotton lavender, and rosemary are all great choices. 

SPA-LIKE COLORS AND TEXTURES

Take a cue from nature when decorating your bathroom. Choose a soft, neutral color like light gray, green, or beige for the walls and accent with natural pieces like a vase full of tree branches or an orchid for a colorful pop. A bowlful of smooth stones on the counter will tie it all together. 

A SHOWER EXPERIENCE TO BEAT ALL SHOWER EXPERIENCES

Nothing beats a shower at the spa, but you can rival that experience right in your own bathroom. If your budget allows, and you’re so inclined, remodel your old shower to create a walk-in shower complete with a rainfall showerhead. Be sure to include large, frameless glass shower doors to enhance the spa retreat feel. 

Alternatively, you can still have a great shower experience without remodeling the space. Simply replace your old showerhead with a luxury model that gives you options for relaxation and massage. 

MOOD LIGHTING

Harsh lighting has no place in a spa retreat. Install a dimmer switch on your bathroom light, if you don’t already have one, and use scarves to diffuse the light even further. Lit candles are another way to add soft lighting, or you could string a set of white lights through a plant or Ficus tree to add a soft glow throughout the room. 

MEDITATIVE MUSIC

Every spa experience includes soft, meditative music in the background. There’s no need to pipe a complete sound system into your bathroom for this, though. Simply download spa-inspired music on your phone or tune into Spotify or Pandora for some tunes to set a relaxing mood. 

The spa experience involves all your senses, so include things to tantalize them all. Just don’t forget to place a “Do Not Disturb” sign outside the door so the rest of the household knows you’re off duty and can’t be bothered for a while.
