DESIGN TRENDS TO WATCH

DESIGN TRENDS TO WATCH

Posted: Friday November 12, 2021

Last year was a rough year for most of us. During that time, the home became the only safe place to be. Many people began working from home, kids became home-schooled, and everyone was encouraged to stay inside where they were least likely to catch and spread the virus. As such, the home became the center of our worlds.

The year dawned a new appreciation for our homes. Many people found out that certain design trends of the previous years were now obsolete. Take, for instance, the open floor plan. Being cooped up together for months at a time, families discovered that having defined separate spaces is a must for privacy and sanity.

If you’re looking to give your home a facelift this year, you’ll want to consider the design trends listed below.

NEUTRALS AND POPS OF BOLD COLOR

Neutrals have been, and always will be, a standard in home design and décor. With that said, many homeowners are looking for something a little more enthusiastic and energizing this year and they are embracing bold pops of color combined with the standard neutrals they already know and love.

For example, Pantone called a bold color combo – Ultimate Gray and Illuminating (a sunny yellow) – that’s sure to become a household staple as the year carries on. From kitchens to bathrooms and beyond, this neutral turned bright and sunny looks great in every room of the home.

PLACES TO ENTERTAIN AND BE ENTERTAINED

Even as the world begins to emerge from the pandemic, many people are opting to stay in rather than go out for entertainment. This has created a need for more entertainment-type spaces in the home. Think larger TVs, mood lighting, better sound systems, comfortable seating, and extravagant dining tables that lend a feeling of going out to eat while staying safe at home.

MULTI-FUNCTIONAL LIVING ROOMS

The living room used to be a space for families to come together to watch TV and enjoy each other’s company. These days, however, this space needs to be multi-functional as each member of the family might use it for different activities. When redesigning your living room, consider adding a games table, a library table, and maybe several seating options for reading and relaxing. This way, no matter what your family members want to do, everyone can come together in the living room and do it.

This is a new year with new possibilities. If you’re looking for something new and exciting in home décor and design, consider the recommendations listed above.
